Bishop Charles P. Greco

Charles Pascal Greco became Alexandria's sixth Bishop in 1946 and duringthe
27 years of his episcopacy led his generous and growing flock in a phenomenal
building program that included the establishment of 33 new parishes and the
construction of more than 125 churches and chapels, 100 convents and rectories,
50 schools, and 7 health-care facilities. One of Bishop Greco's proudestachievements
was the erection of two multimillion dollar facilities for specialchildren
-- St. Mary's Residential Training School in Clarks, which was laterrelocated
in Alexandria, and Holy Angels School for Retarded Children inShreveport.
Bishop Greco's zeal for youth and for priestly vocations led him toestablish
Maryhill in 1949; today his project has grown into a spiritualrenewal center.
In 1983, Bishop Greco served as Supreme Chaplain.
There are numerous scholarships named in his honor.
