Welcome to the Home Page of the Freeport Squires Circle. Our Circle is based in Freeport, Long Island, New York. The Freeport Squires Circle is sponsored and supervised by Archbishop Molloy Knights of Columbus Council #1974. The Columbian Squires is the youth division of the Knights of Columbus. It is open to Catholic boys aged 10 through 17 years old. The Freeport Squires Circle is one of many basic youth divisions called Circles. Although the Circle is supervised by adult members of the Knights of Columbus, the boys in the Circle elect their own officers and run most of the activities themselves. In addition to performing church and community service projects, the Freeport Squires schedule some excellent activities and trips for pure enjoyment and fraternalism. If you are interested in joining the Freeport Squires contact Grand Knight Paul Cavanagh at 516-379-5890

The original Squires Circle of Archbishop Molloy Council #1974 was started by Past Grand Knight Henry J. Dengel. It was named for PGK Charles F. Egan, who served our council as Grand Knight from 1928-1929.

The late Msgr. Charles Swiger, former Pastor of St. Kilian's in Farmingdale, New York, was a charter member of this Squires Circle when he was a boy.,

Past Grand Knight Mike Bohanon did a fine job as the Squires Chief Counselor for several years. Unfortunately, the status of the Circle eventually became officially inactive by Supreme Council standards.

Then in 1998, Deputy Grand Knight Paul Doyle mentioned to then Grand Knight Jack Impellizeri that he would like to re-activate the council's Squires Circle. The Grand Knight thought it was a great idea. Doyle brought the idea to the membership at a meeting where it was well received. With Frank McGoldrick and Jack Impellizeri as Counselor's and Paul Doyle as Chief Counselor it looked like things would move quickly. The hard part was to find the ten boys needed to reactivate the Circle. It took a lot longer than anticipated to sign up boys that were the appropriate ages. Then Supreme Council decided to lower the membership qualifying age down to age ten. Nine boys signed up. Doyle still needed one more boy in order to reactivate the Circle.

An installation ceremony was held at St. Mary's Council Hall in Lynbrook for those nine boys who had signed up. Several Freeport boys including Jeremy Impellizeri, son of Past Grand Knight Jack Impellizeri, officially became Squires on that night. Their Circle was not officially re-activated yet but things started to progress in anticipation of the signing of the 10th member.

Election of officers finally took place in the basement of Our Holy Redeemer Church.  The results will be shown below.
